Why Spain?

How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

— Romans 10:14

THE NUMBER OF BELIEVERS REMAINS SIGNIFICANTLY LOW.

In spite of Christianity being in Spain since the first century, over 98% of its people today haven't experienced the life-changing power of the gospel. While much of Europe has gone through times of gospel-renewal (the Reformation, the Great Awakening, and the modern missions movement), Spain has largely resisted them. Instead, its people have clung for centuries to religious traditions opposed to the gospel. This has only begun to change in the last 40 years when the doors were opened to more religious freedom in the country.

EACH GENERATION IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY NON-RELIGIOUS.

When people are fed a false gospel that’s powerless to save, it’s no surprise when they eventually deny it. Since the country gained its religious freedom, each generation has become increasingly non-religious. Sadly, many have rejected Christ without ever truly understanding His grace.

MOST TOWNS STILL HAVE NO GOSPEL-PREACHING CHURCH

Of the over 8,000 cities and towns across Spain, more than 7,300 do not have a gospel preaching church. It’s not that they are without a healthy church. They are without a single church.

Towns of more than 5,000 inhabitants with no evangelical church.

Towns of less than 5,000 inhabitants with no evangelical church.

MANY UNREACHED PEOPLES ARE COMING TO SPAIN

Like much of Europe, unreached people groups from around the world are moving to Spain. In every major city, there are immigrants and refugees from the Middle East, South Asia, North Africa, and other parts of Europe, many of whom have never heard the gospel.
